Xul Solar was a multi-talented artist, musician, and inventor whose work helped shape the art scene in Argentina in the early 20th century. Born in 1887 as Oscar Agustin Alejandro Schulz Solari, he later changed his name to Xul Solar to reflect his interest in mystical and esoteric subjects.
Solar’s artwork is characterized by its whimsical and fantastical style, often featuring colorful, otherworldly landscapes and intricate, symbolic designs. He was also deeply interested in astrology, numerology, and spiritualism, and many of his pieces reflect these interests.
One of his most famous works is “Panjuego,” a board game he invented that combined elements of chess, tarot, and other games. He also designed his own musical instruments and created a musical system that used colors to represent different musical notes.
Despite his many accomplishments, Solar remained relatively unknown outside of Argentina until after his death in 1963. Today, his legacy lives on through the Xul Solar Museum in Buenos Aires, which houses a collection of his artwork and personal belongings.
